Watercolour Explorations - 3 days - MELBOURNE - JULY 2024 with John Lovett

One of Australia's most beloved watercolour teachers is joining us for a 3 day Melbourne workshop.  John is renowned for his easy-to-follow instructions and guiding you through multiple watercolour paintings in a variety of subjects. John Lovett has had a lifetime of teaching workshops and success as an artist. He is renowned for helping students to loosen up and get creative with their watercolours and is a highly sought after artist for beginners and experienced alike.

In this workshop, John will cover his techniques for taking your watercolour art to the next level using a variety of painting subjects. Learn the tips and tricks to how he keeps his paintings loose as well as a variety of drafting techniques John uses to add interest and heighten focal points in an artwork.

French Ultramarine Blue

Phthalo Blue (or Winsor, or Prussian)

Permanent Alizarin Crimson (or Art Spectrum Permanent Crimson)

Quinacridone Gold (or Indian Yellow)

White Gouache Small container of Gesso

Cobalt Blue Aureolin

INK

Burnt Sienna Pigment Ink (Art Spectrum)*

Plain Dip in Pen and Nib *(remember to screw the cap on tight and seal in a clear plastic bag if you’re flying)

BRUSHES 1 inch flat Taklon (one stroke)

#1 or #2 Taklon liner (Neef are a good brand)

¼ inch flat Taklon (one stroke)

2 inch or 3 inch Hake Brush (goat hair)

⅛ inch flat Taklon (one stroke)

½ inch bristle house-painting brush (these are supplied)

PENCILS

A couple of Schwan Stabillo (or Conte) pastel pencils

Black and White Charcoal Pencils A couple of Derwent

Inktense pencils

A craft knife

PAPER

John prefers Arches Watercolour Blocks – 300gsm (140lb) 26cm x 36cm (approx. 10” x 14”) John also opts to carry sheets of arches paper, cut into quarters and taped on to a core flute backing using masking tape.

OTHER ITEMS

Old towel – used for adjusting the amount of water on your brush

Palette – small enamel or plastic folding

Water Spray Bottle – small atomizer type sprays are best for travelling

Board or Core Flute - to tape your paper onto

Masking Tape

Plastic Cup for water 

Painting Water Bottle

Small Sketch Pad

LOCATION

Art Lovers Melbourne, 300 Wellington St, Collingwood.

NOTE:  

There are 2 flights of stairs and no lift.  Please have this in mind if you have mobility issues.  

It can get very cold at this time of year so please come prepared with a warm jacket.

There are cafes within walking distance and a fridge and microwave on site if you'd prefer to bring your own.

John Lovett

John Lovett is a regular contributor to International Artist Magazine and Australian Artist Magazine. He is the author of "Watercolor For the Fun of It - Getting Started" published by Northlight Books and "splashingPAINT" a complete 2 hour instructional DVD. He conducts workshops in Australia, USA and Europe where his informal, passionate approach has won a huge following.
