Travel Journals or Pastels in the Countryside of Japan

Japan • October 07, 2026 • 7 Days

1 SPOT NOW AVAILABLE!

Join us in the mountainous Hida region for the small city of Takayama and in a traditional Ryokan in the Okuhida Onsen area with Lyn Diefenbach! We have curated a combination of painting the narrow streets  lined with wooden merchants’ houses dating to the Edo Period with a day trip to the nearby UNESCO world heritage Shirakawago - a beautifully preserved village of thatched roof housing. You will travel with renowned artist Lyn Diefenbach & Artable founder Gillian alongside our very own Japanese guide. You can choose to work in an easy travel journal style, sitting quietly to capture your experiences and sites using pen, ink, watercolour & gouchae, or if you are a pastel enthusiast you can bring along pastels for en plein air work too. This diversity allows for anyone with a love of travel and creativity to join in no matter the level of art you are at. Artable is renowned for our attention to detail and epic experiences combined with plenty of painting time. Lyn is able to teach in every medium, so bring along whatever you are most comfortable with. Enjoy a week with Lyn or extend your trip to join Chan Dissanayake in Kyoto to experience the city and the Funaya houses at Ine.
