Nostalgia: Painting Memories in Acrylic

Gold Coast - RQAS • February 14, 2026 • 2 Days

Step into a world of colour, emotion, and storytelling as you transform treasured family photographs into expressive acrylic paintings. This workshop is perfect for beginners and those wanting to paint more expressively without getting caught up in fine detail. In this workshop, you’ll learn how to capture the feeling behind a moment — not just the likeness — using bold brushstrokes, luminous colour, and intuitive techniques.

Teacher

RQAS, The workshop is held upstairs but there is a lift if you have mobility issues.

Together, we’ll explore how to simplify a photo reference, loosen your painting style, and bring a sense of timeless beauty to everyday memories. Whether it’s an image of your children playing in the backyard, a snapshot from a beach holiday, or a faded photograph from your childhood, you’ll learn how to translate those moments into paintings that radiate warmth and heart.

You’ll discover how to mix harmonious colours, suggest form through light and shadow, and create painterly texture that breathes life into your work. Clair will guide you through every step — from composition and underpainting to layering techniques that evoke atmosphere and emotion.

By the end of the workshop, you’ll walk away with your own nostalgic artwork — a heartfelt reminder of life’s simple joys, painted in your unique style. More than just a painting lesson, Nostalgia is an invitation to slow down, reflect, and reconnect with the beauty of your own memories.
