Over five days, Natalie will guide you through her approach to contemporary watercolour, sharing practical techniques, demonstrations and plenty of opportunities to experiment and develop your own creative style.

We’ll start by building a strong foundation in watercolour, exploring essential techniques including brushwork, colour mixing, layering and mark-making. You’ll learn how to observe flowers, simplify their shapes and translate what you see into loose, expressive drawings and paintings.

A highlight of the workshop will be an excursion to Kings Park (weather permitting, of course), where we’ll take inspiration from the incredible diversity of Australian flora. Through observational drawing, sketching and colour studies, you’ll discover new ways of looking at your subject and capturing its unique character.

Back in the studio, we’ll build on these skills to explore composition, bolder colour choices and working on a larger scale. Natalie will show you how to bring your ideas together into expressive floral paintings, encouraging you to experiment, trust your instincts and find your own way of working.

Throughout the week, the focus will be on developing confidence, understanding your materials and learning to work more freely with watercolour, without getting caught up in making everything look perfect.

You’ll leave with a collection of studies and larger finished paintings to take home, along with practical skills and techniques you can continue to build on.

This workshop is suitable for beginners, including those with no previous watercolour experience. More experienced painters looking to loosen up their approach and explore contemporary florals are also welcome.
