Learn to Draw Colour Pencil - Flowers JANUARY with Martina Pook

Join us for this 1 day learn to draw workshop designed for the beginner or those who haven't touched any art for a while. Images are traced so no drawing skill is needed to learn colour pencil techniques. Once you learn the basics, you will be amazed with the levels of realism you can achieve.

You will be trained in the various coloured pencil techniques and learn how to avoid the most common mistakes made in this medium and how to apply it correctly. You will go home with three smaller drawings and will have a good understanding of:

  • Pencil Brands and Paper Types
  • Tools and Materials
  • Application and Techniques (Burnishing, Layering and drawing on Coloured Paper)
  • Tricks and Tips

Materials List;

You will need:

  • Coloured Pencils the more the better, but minimum of 36 pencils.
    Derwent Studio / Faber Castell Polychromos / Faber Castel Albrecht Duerer
  • Good Sharpener with barrel or even better Carl Angel 5 Sharpener if you will use coloured pencils a lot.
  • Prismacolor colourless Blender
  • Paper stump (Tortillion) for blending
  • White Faber Castell Albrecht Duerer Pencil. (Must be this brand, as it is the strongest white available)

We will supply:

  • Coloured pastel paper
  • Drawing paper
  • Q-Tips
  • Baby Oil
  • Zest Medium

This workshop is being held in Martina's studio in Highland Park. There is on street parking and its best to BYO lunch or else you can drive out during the lunch break.

Meet the Teach

Martina Pook

Martina received her arts training at the Peter Schneider Atelier in Germany and became a commercial illustrator for major companies, such as BP, BHP, Queensland Goverment, Channel Ten etc. She also finished a degree in Graphic Design at the QSPGA in Brisbane. and worked for five years as a senior art teacher at the Gold Coast Art School in Southport.

She is former director of Ilustration House Pty Ltd, and The Art Directory. She has held numerous roles within the arts industry, including the presentation and lecturing of art business courses and discussion rounds for emerging artists and teaches art since 1999 and has now joined the teaching team of Artable to find more time for painting.
