In October 2023, I was delighted to attend a 10 day pastel art retreat in Appenzell, Switzerland, hosted by Gillian Grove of Artable, with the amazing Lyn Diefenbach.
For our blog post this month we thought we would share with you a post written by Pauline Carroll who joined us on our recent Artable retreat with Colley Whisson. we've traveled with hundreds of you now and of course we know how epic the experience is, but it is always good to hear a view from one of our students themselves. Enjoy the read!
Awarded Eminent Pastellist status by the International Association of Pastel Societies in 2019 and Pastellist of the Year in 2018 by the Australian Pastel Society, Lyn Diefenbach is a true master of the medium. We caught up with Lyn over lunch at a recent four-day pastel portrait and landscape workshop in Coolangatta to find out about what makes her tick and discover the importance she places on having a creative outlet.
Wow - there are just so many of you who have taken to art since the world got turned upside down with Covid last year. I feel like the switch got turned on in terms of everyone being given a bit of a pause to reflect on their lives. I'm calling it the great 'Covid Pause'. I took myself off social media for a couple of months and got back into my garden, my own art and picked up a few new hobbies too. But now we are back in the full swing thing of things we can once again access so many great artists from interstate to share their love of creativity with you.
When Artable was catapulted into the spotlight through their win at the NSW Chamber of Commerce regional awards for the Northern Rivers, it was the arts community who cheered the loudest. One of their own was in the spotlight.
