In 2020 we are taking 3 retreats to Greece, so have a look at the options and pick the one that best fits for you.
Our 'Greece Creative Retreat' is for the light-hearted artist who would like to enjoy a creative holiday. Creatively, you will enjoy sessions with our local artist learning to create beautiful pen & watercolour travel journals as well as printmaking & ceramic plate painting sessions at our local art studio. You need no art experience whatsoever to join in.
This art retreat combines all of our favourite things together in one package. We have thought about what the ultimate holiday would look like:
Stay on a small Greek island surrounded by lush forests and turquoise waters - tick
Time to be creative, working in not just plein-air, but other art forms as well (printmaking & ceramics)
Learn from a renowned artist who lives on the island and can give you local knowledge on where and what to paint - tick
Sailing trips to see the island from the deck of a sailing boat where you can snorkel, sunbathe, paint or just soak in the Mediterranean atmosphere - tick
Locally picked tapas bars where you can drink a cocktail and enjoy some music and people watching while the sun sets - tick
A local grandmother cooking occasional meals for us - tick
Accommodation that is comfortable, affordable, has a view and is a walk to town - tick
Well organised and experienced art tour operators that know how to put on a great time, but allow enough chill out time to take it all in - tick
Artable has built its reputation on providing the best in art travel experiences. Our Greece Creative Art Retreat package brings together years of traveling and workshop experience to design a holiday that will be not only creative, but relaxing and interesting as well. Artable is renowned for working with beginners, so if you have never painted before, you will find this a magical way to learn and to start a new hobby and way of traveling for life.
Artable painting holidays steer clear of trying to fit too much in on one holiday. We prefer to find a place we love and settle in for 10 days, exploring the local culture and scenery each day whilst being creative.
This workshop sees us visit artist Nerida De Jong on the island of Skopelos. As artists, we look for that magic combination of being surrounded by beauty, being able to live like a local, having the chance to eat fresh, local produce and insider knowledge of the area that we visit. Our accommodation is in shared rooms of 2 with spectacular views of the harbour and is walking distance to town. You will need to be able to handle some walking on this tour as our accommodation is set up high and we will favor walking wherever possible.
Breakfast is included each morning with some lunches and some dinners included in the price (others allow you to choose & pay for your own meals at a variety of restaurants).
If you have never painted before, this is the perfect place to learn. Painters will have painting sessions either morning or afternoon and you can choose how much or how little painting you do. Non-painting partners are welcome to join us as well and will have plenty to do. With only 3-4 hours each day painting, we have the rest of the time to swim, relax, shop, dine and more!
You don't need to feel as though you are a good painter to do this trip, we have taken many beginner painters away to learn with us before. You may even have just felt the urge to start painting and drawing - this is a good way to take it up and learn for the first time.
You need NO EXPERIENCE/TALENT WHATSOEVER - We will be stepping you through techniques to help you. Imagine telling your friends in years to come where you learnt to paint! You can draw or paint in any medium that suits you.
Non-painting partners are very welcome to join us - they will have an amazing time and Steve is on hand to make sure that they do!
PLEASE NOTE: This tour involves a lot of walking up hills and stairs around the village of Skopelos. Please contact us if you have fears around your ability to cope with this.

Artist Nerida de Jong captures the essence of her life experiences in the rich, vibrant colors of her acrylic paintings. Her style is very natural with brush strokes flowing organically. Her attention to intricate and beautiful detail brings a reality to her work that draws you into the painting allowing you to share those experiences with her.
Her paintings tell real life stories. “My works are just what they are—explanations of what’s happening around me at a particular time,” de Jong explains.
Remembering the passion for drawing and painting that she felt from the age of three, the Australian Artist Nerida de Jong…
